ワクワク, ドキドキ, キュン: Japanese Onomatopoeia for Emotions English Can't Carry

If you watch Japanese drama or anime, you've heard characters describing their feelings with onomatopoeia — words that sound out the emotion itself. English doesn't really do this; we say my heart is racing for everything from excitement to fear to love.

Japanese splits heart-racing by what's causing it. Today let's unpack the most useful ones.

💓 Between expectation and nerves: ワクワク vs ドキドキ

In English both translate as my heart's racing. In Japanese the split is sharp.
