さすが vs やっぱり: Japanese's Two 'As Expected'

Watch any Japanese drama and you'll hear 流石さすが and やっぱり all the time. Both get translated as as expected — but they're definitely not interchangeable.

One praises. The other confirms. Mix them up and you'll praise when you should be predicting, or vice versa.

🌟 1. 流石さすが: admiration + as expected

流石さすが (sasuga) is used when something/someone lives up to their reputation, skill, or status. The vibe: "Of course you'd do that — you're amazing."

It's a compliment dressed as an as expected. The core feeling is admiration.

💡 Tip: 流石 is mostly used for people, skills, performances. Always positive.
